Throw out the lifeline, Someone is sinking today....
Throw out the lifeline, With an arm quick and strong, There is a brother whom someone should save.....
So picture this.... I am lying on my back staring at millions of stars on a Jetty at Princess Margaret Caves on the Glenelg River with my 11 year old son snuggled up next to me, the older boy watching a fishing line in anticipation of a catch... The moon shines brightly above, almost too strong to look into it's rays... Its almost like it's beams are healing the wounds left behind by my previous employers decision to terminate my employment almost three months ago, the precursor to taking this trip. The time camping in the National Park with no other campers and preparing our meal over a fire pit (rotissorie at that)... Was extremely special. I have been reading the book, Wisdom Man, the story of Banjo Clarke as told by Camillia Chance (quote taken from this book in the heading), and cannot help but be moved by the way the indigenous custodians of our land lived. Traveling through these parts, I am also ashamed by the way my forefathers treated the people who owned this place. The wisdom Banjo shares in this book includes this quote. 'If something terrible happens, they said, 'you stop for a while and have a think, and then you work around the next next big problem coming up. Like water around rock. it's all part of the pattern of life; you keep going. And you still help people when you can, even your worst enemy. The moment a person has a need, you forget what he has done to you'. The context refers to the message the 'old people' used to pass onto the next generation and Banjo's lament at the tradition dying with the 'old people' and the teaching and sharing with the next generation not being passed on also.... How true it is also in this generation of white fellas and I am challenged to think about the message being passed onto my next generation. When traveling it is amazing to meet others on a similar journey. The catalyst and purpose for the travel is varied, but the sense of community is strong... The experiences are similar as are the challenges. It amazes me that people who have never met are so prepared to offer support to each other... Share their story and offer to join each others blogs. Today concludes with only a week of memories... However it already feels we have been living this way for a lifetime... And guess what... We have only just begun...
